BJP's Dinesh Sharma Reveals: Neither Rahul Gandhi Nor Sonia Gandhi Addressed Discussions
New Delhi [India], April 4 (ANI): Following the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 through Parliament, BJP Member of Parliament Dinesh Sharma On Friday stated that the parliament experienced a "momentous occasion," however, leaders from the Congress party did not agree. Rahul Gandhi Priyanka Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi remained silent during the talks.
The parliament experienced this significant historical event... Rahul Gandhi , Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Neither Sonia Gandhi nor anyone else spoke up during the discussions. Their positions—whether for or against it—remained unclear. Everyone understood that the bill was crucial for minority groups, and leaders from various parties supported the legislation," Sharma stated.
Union Minister Bhagirath Chaudhary said that Muslims will hugely benefit from this bill.
"Today marks a significant moment in history, with the bill having been approved...This legislation will greatly advantage the Muslim community," stated Chaudhary.
BJP MP Brij Lal stated, "This bill holds historical significance...It will provide advantages to impoverished and marginalized Muslim populations...Individuals belonging to OBC and Pasmanda groups will also gain representation within the Waqf Board..."
The Parliament approved the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 during the late hours of Friday following an extensive and intense debate.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said, "Ayes 128 and Noes 95, Absent zero. The Bill is passed."
The Assembly remained past midnight to approve the legislation.
Lok Sabha, which took up discussion on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill on Wednesday, passed it past midnight after a marathon debate.
After adopting the suggestions from the Joint Parliamentary Committee that reviewed the law presented in August of the previous year, the government put forward an updated version of the bill. This new legislation aims to modify the 1995 Act with the intention of enhancing the governance and oversight of waqf properties within India.
The Bill aims to overcome the shortcomings of the previous act and enhance the efficiency of Waqf boards, improving the registration process and increasing the role of technology in managing waqf records. (ANI)
