Union Minister BL Verma Hails Passage of Critical Waqf Amendment Bill

New Delhi [India], April 4 (ANI): After the approval of the Waqf Amendment Bill In 2025, numerous political figures voiced their opinions and endorsed the initiative. The Union Minister was among them. BL Verma emphasised the importance of the bill by ensuring that their rights are protected.

During conversation with ANI, the Union Minister BL Verma He stated, "This legislation was essential to ensure that ordinary and underprivileged Muslims could partake in it and have their rights safeguarded."

JDU MP Sanjay Jha The former criticised the past mismanagement of the Waqf board, asserting that the amendment would be advantageous for Muslims and OBCs, and members from the Pasmanda community will also gain representation within the Waqf Board.

Jha stated to ANI, “The asset under the Waqf board was not being utilized properly. There were issues of mismanagement and corruption involved. This amendment aims to advantage Muslims, as well as members from the OBC and Pasmanda communities, who will now have a say in the Waqf Board.”

BJP MP Medha Kulkarni he stated, "Today marks a joyful occasion... I must share that our hard work for the JPC has paid off. The stance taken by Shiv Sena (UBT) does not surprise me." People were very happy after the bill was passed in Lok Sabha, and we were confident that it would be passed in Rajya Sabha as well. We are very happy that the historic bill has been passed."

The Parliament passed the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 in the early hours of Friday after a marathon and heated debate.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said, "Ayes 128 and Noes 95, Absent zero. The Bill is passed."

The 'Mussalman Wakf (Abolition) Bill, 2024' was also approved by the Parliament. Lawmakers continued their session past midnight to ensure the bill’s passage.

Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accused the opposition parties of trying to mislead people on the Waqf Amendment Bill and mentioned it would advantage countless individuals from the Muslim community.

In response to the more than 12 hours of discussion regarding the bill, Rajya Sabha Rijiju mentioned that numerous proposals put forward by the Joint Parliamentary Committee have been included in the amended legislation.

Rijiju mentioned that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, will now be called the UMEED (Unified Waqf Management Empowerment Efficiency and Development) Bill.

The Lok Sabha discussed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill on Wednesday and managed to pass it just before midnight following an extensive debate session.

After adopting the suggestions from the Joint Parliamentary Committee that reviewed the law presented in August of the previous year, the government put forward an updated version of the bill. This new legislation aims to revise the 1995 Act with the intention of enhancing the governance and oversight of waqf properties within India.

This legislation seeks to address the deficiencies of the prior act and boost the effectiveness of Waqf boards by refining the registration procedures and amplifying the use of technology in handling waqf documentation. (ANI)
