Sanwo-Olu Swears In New Ayobo-Ipaja Chairman Days After Predecessor's Death

The leadership void in Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State, which arose after the passing of its chairman, has now been addressed.

On Thursday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administered the oath of office for the role of substantive chairman to the council’s Vice Chairman, Hon. Oladipupo Oluwoloni.

The inauguration event was held in the Banquet Hall of the State House, located in Alausa.

Mrs. Bola Shobowale, the former chairperson, succumbed to a long battle with illness roughly two weeks ago.

Sanwo-Olu honored Shobowale’s leadership, referring to her as "an influential figure dedicated to serving the community" and noted that she stayed devoted to advancing the council up till her passing.

The Governor highlighted that appointing Oluwoloni was crucial for maintaining governmental consistency and urged him to continue the advancements started by his recently deceased predecessor.

Today marks the inauguration of Hon. Oladipupo Oluwoloni as the new chairman of Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area (LCDA). As stated by Sanwo-Olu, this event aims to meet the constitutional obligation of preventing any power void after the passing of the previous chairman, Mrs. Bola Shobowale. The purpose of this mandatory process is to maintain uninterrupted governance within the LCDA.

He emphasized that Oluwoloni’s selection was an indication of the trust instilled in him by both the political figures and the community members within the council.

"The new chairman is well-acquainted with the council. This appointment underscores the trust placed in him by both the government and citizens of the council regarding his capability to guide them. As he takes on this significant role, I encourage him to rule with impartiality, openness, and a strong commitment to serving the populace," he concluded.

Sanwo-Olu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with the council leadership to deliver on governance promises, noting that local governments remain the closest tier to the people.

“I charge the new chairman to focus on initiatives that will enhance grassroots development, improve service delivery, and uplift the standard of living of residents. Foster cooperation and relationships with various grassroots stakeholders, including political leaders and traditional rulers. I trust that under this new leadership, the LCDA will witness accelerated progress and transformation,” the Governor stated.

During his acceptance speech, Oluwoloni, having taken the oath with his spouse at his side, committed to building upon the achievements of his predecessor. He affirmed that his leadership would focus on enhancing infrastructure as a key strategy for fostering socioeconomic development within the council.
