Delta Gives Unapproved Schools 21-Day Deadline Ultimatum

The government of Delta State has declared its intention to close down every nursery and primary school that does not have proper approval throughout the state.

This step is being implemented "to cleanse private sector involvement in the primary education sector within the state."

This statement appeared in an official government release signed by Theresa Adiabua Oliko, who held the positions of Director of Public Communication and Functioning Permanent Secretary within the State Ministry of Information.

Journalists in Warri received copies on Thursday.

Nevertheless, the government instructed proprietors of every non-approved primary school statewide to "enhance" their facilities within the 21-day deadline or face closure.

Part of the official statement says, "This notice is issued for the general populace’s awareness, specifically targeting proprietors of private nurseries and primary schools within Delta State. In keeping with its duty to regulate private involvement in primary education across the region, the government has declared that all unauthorized primary schools in the area must rectify their infrastructural deficiencies and legitimize their operations through registration with the Ministry of Primary Education within twenty-one days as of now."

Non-compliance with this instruction will result in serious consequences, which may include the complete shutdown of all these institutions.

The 21-day deadline has now become crucial due to the increase in unauthorized private educational institutions. These schools suffer from inadequate infrastructure, under-qualified educators, and unsuitable operating conditions, which are causing concern for the state government.
