New Delhi [India], April 4 (ANI): On Friday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla highlighted that legislative drafting is essential for any law and emphasized the importance of clear and simple legislation.
He emphasized that laws have a lasting effect on society and individuals; therefore, they should be straightforward and easy for everyday people to comprehend.
This will result in fewer court cases and consequently conserve resources. In the context of the dynamic socio-economic transformation He emphasized that it is crucial for legislators and officials to have a strong grasp of legislative drafting so as to guarantee that the public’s requirements are met.

Birla made these comments during an exchange with a cohort of 28 international attendees representing 13 different nations who were participating in the 36th International Legislative Drafting Training Program, hosted by the organization. The attendees commended the lawmaking procedures implemented in the globe's most extensive democratic nation and the application of technology for real-time translation across 22 Indian languages and 6 international languages.
The program will run from March 26 to April 22, 2025, in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (Government of India), under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) initiative.
Highlighting India's growing stature as the world's largest democracy, Birla highlighted that PRIDE is playing a vital role in capacity building of legislatures from around the world. He observed that good Legislative Drafting is the core of proper legislation and hoped that this training programmes would be very helpful for all participants.
During the programme, participants are being trained on several themes, including the Constitution of India, the legislative process, parliamentary privileges, administrative law, consumer protection, and the new criminal laws. The participants will also have attachments with the Ministry of Law and Justice and State Legislatures . (ANI)
