Sokoto Gov Pledges Revival of Dormant Industries

The Sokoto State Government has intensified efforts to revive moribund industries across the state.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu made this known during his meeting with representatives from the Sokoto State Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture who called on him for Sallah greetings on Wednesday.

He restated his dedication to reviving industries as a strategy for addressing joblessness and enhancing economic development.

Aliyu expressed disappointment over the decline of various sectors that were previously flourishing in the state, such as ceramics, leather processing, woodworking, and fertilizer mixing facilities. These industries were crucial for employment opportunities and income production.

"To stimulate economic recovery, our government is enacting measures that ease commerce and foster an attractive setting for investors," Aliyu emphasized.

He emphasized that the administration was keen on forming collaborations with potential investors to revitalize the dormant industrial sites.

The governor also highlighted his administration’s proactive steps in providing key infrastructure for industrialisation, particularly through quality road construction and the completion of the Sokoto Independent Power Plant project. Once completed, he said the IPP would enhance the electricity supply, thus boosting industrial and business activities in the state.

The governor urged SOCCIMA to actively promote Sokoto’s vast potential in agriculture, mining, trade, and commerce to attract local and foreign investors.

He assured the chamber of his administration’s unwavering support in transforming Sokoto into a thriving business hub.

The president of SOCCIMA, Alhaji Muazu Maaji, praised the governor for his development initiatives, notably the continuous urban rejuvenation project which has considerably enhanced the state's infrastructure and attractiveness to investors.

He voiced his assurance that these initiatives would position Sokoto as a top choice for commercial and industrial development.

In the meantime, Kabir Kware, the Deputy Speaker of the state House of Assembly, has praised the governor for implementing various development initiatives throughout the state without needing to borrow funds from external institutions.

He stated this during a Sallah homage by the legislature to the governor on Wednesday.

Kware observed that at no time did the governor attempt to seek approval for obtaining a loan, which he highlighted as particularly praiseworthy considering the magnitude of citizen-focused initiatives carried out by the government.

Also, the state Chief Judge, Justice Muhammad Sifawa, lauded the governor for expanding judicial infrastructure, particularly the construction of additional courtrooms at the state High Court.

He pointed out the governor’s attentiveness to the judiciary’s requirements as evidence of the cooperative rapport between the executive, legislative, and judicial branches within the state.

The governor restated his government's dedication to keeping the pledges made during the election by providing tangible benefits of democracy to the citizens.

He urged enhanced collaboration between the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government to speed up the state’s progress.

Allow me to seize this moment to urge our legislators in the state House of Assembly to bring forward the urgent needs of their constituencies for prompt attention.

"I am guaranteeing them an open-door policy for addressing citizens' concerns," he stated.

He instructed judicial officials to hasten the resolution of cases in order to reduce congestion in correctional centers, noting that his government has recently appointed seven new judges along with seven additional Khadis—the largest number ever recorded in Sokoto’s history—with the aim of improving judicial effectiveness.
