Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora: Waqf Amendment Bill Will Bring Major Benefits for Muslims
New Delhi [India], April 4 (ANI): Describing the approval of the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 in Parliament "historic," Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora on Friday said that Muslims will greatly profit from the Waqf Amendment Bill .
"Today is a historic day for minorities. Muslims were merely being utilized as vote banks and were excluded from progress... Muslims will greatly profit from the Waqf Amendment Bill . Shiv Sena (UBT) goes against Hindus. They engaged in significant political activities targeting this community. Waqf Amendment Bill ; they are not just against Hindus but also Muslims ," Milind Deora said.
The Parliament passed the Waqf Amendment Bill In the wee hours of Friday following an extended and intense discussion, 2025 was reached.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar announced, "In favor: 128 votes; against: 95 votes; absentees: none. The bill has been approved."
The 'Mussalman Wakf (Abolition) Bill, 2024' was also approved by the Parliament. Lawmakers continued their session past midnight to ensure the bill’s passage.
Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accused the opposition parties of trying to mislead people on the Waqf Amendment Bill and mentioned it would advantage countless individuals from the Muslim community.
In response to the more than 12-hour-long discussion on the bill in the Rajya Sabha, Rijiju stated that numerous recommendations from the Joint Parliamentary Committee had been included in the amended version of the legislation.
Rijiju said that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, will be renamed as the UMEED (Unified Waqf Management Empowerment Efficiency and Development) Bill.
Lok Sabha, which took up discussion on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill on Wednesday, passed it past midnight after a marathon debate.
The government introduced the revised bill after incorporating the recommendations of the Joint Parliamentary Committee, which examined the legislation introduced in August last year. The bill seeks to amend the Act of 1995 and improve the administration and management of waqf properties in India.
This legislation seeks to address the deficiencies of the prior act and boost the effectiveness of Waqf boards by refining the registration procedures and amplifying the use of technology in handling waqf documentation. (ANI)
