Diri Vows to Empower Soilless Farmers Worldwide
The government of Bayelsa State has committed to supporting participants in its Soilless Farming Initiative to boost food production and security within the region.
During a gathering with 180 soilless farming participants at the Executive Council Chambers in the Government House, Yenagoa, Governor Douye Diri expressed his dedication to this initiative.
The participants took part in an initiative launched by the Bayelsa State government alongside MasterCard and received their training in Ogun State.
Governor Diri highlighted that his government places a strong emphasis on ensuring food security with the objective of producing sustenance not just for the people of Bayelsa, but also for neighboring areas.
He encouraged the trainees to take on a crucial role in advancing technical agriculture within the state and motivated them to utilize their recently gained knowledge to achieve self-employment as well as teach these skills to others.
He stated, "We acknowledge the significance of agriculture and food security. Our objective is to generate sufficient food supplies for Bayelsa and even further regions. You represent the upcoming generation of skilled farmers within this state."
Governor Diri similarly lauded MasterCard for making the initiative possible and thanked the Commissioner for Youth Development for presenting this concept to him.
He stated, "Should you excel, we will proceed to train additional individuals like yourselves. However, should you falter, further training for others would not be warranted."
The Commissioner for Youth Development, Alfred Kemepado, expressed gratitude to the governor for approving the training and voiced optimism that it would contribute to the state’s food security efforts.
Tari Adamawa, one of the trainees, mentioned that they learned farming methods which demand very little space. Being the trailblazers for soil-free cultivation in Bayelsa, they look forward to utilizing this new knowledge to enhance food production and security within the region.
