The 26-year-old lady broke the news on TikTok, citing black tax, a term for the money people often give their parents out of obligation or a deeply ingrained sense of family responsibility.

Why lady cut off her father

The woman mentioned that it had been one month since she severed all connections with her dad, whom she accused of financial manipulation—a practice he allegedly engaged in for an extended period.

Although admitting it wasn’t an easy task, she stated that setting limits is essential when one recognizes they are being exploited by their parent. As she put it:

A month has passed since I decided to entirely disconnect from my father. This also includes blocking him, primarily due to the ongoing financial manipulation that began quite some time ago.

This choice wasn’t an easy one, as everyone knows, separating from a parent isn’t simple. However, when you recognize that they are exploiting you, it becomes clear that certain limits must be maintained at that juncture.

She aimed to leverage her firm choice to inspire others facing a comparable challenge.

"I created this page, mostly to talk, or to encourage people just like me who are outside of the country and trying to make a better life for themselves and especially, for me, I focus on the financial aspect, because we are all trying to get away from poverty."

Speaking further, the lady said she was tired of the black tax, noting that she is still in her twenties and is striving to better her life.

She mourned the fact that her parent, who should have been her primary ally, tried to undermine her and hinder her advancement with constant requests for money. She expressed this sentiment in writing as follows:

I feel utterly exhausted from bearing what’s known as 'black tax.' Even though I'm still in my twenties and striving to improve my life, it feels like the person meant to be my top cheerleader is actually holding me back and sabotaging any advancement toward a brighter future for myself. While I don’t mind assisting my family, once these requests become an everyday occurrence without respite, I must set some limits—even if this means disappointing others along the way.
