Islamabad's Little Learners Get a Big Boost: 100 New Early Childhood Education Rooms Open

On March 31, the Ministry of Federal Education announced that they have transformed 100 classrooms within the Federal Directorate of Education’s schools into Early Childhood Education spaces, as reported by Daily Times.

The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), which operates as part of the Ministry of Federal Education, oversees 432 educational institutions within the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT). This ministry is currently implementing reforms at these FDE-managed institutions through the Prime Minister’s Educational Reform Initiative.

The project is progressing through various stages. During this particular stage, 12 schools have been selected for upgrading their classrooms into Early Childhood Education (ECE) spaces. These institutions include: Islamabad Model School (IMS) G-11/1, IMS G-6/4, IMS No. 3 G-9/2, IMS F-7/2, IMSG (I-X) Mohra Noor, IMS (I-VIII) F-7/4, IMS (I-V) I-9/1 (Block Number Two, Lane Thirty), IMS No. 3 G-8/1, IMSG (I-X) Shahdara, IMSB Sangjani, IMSG Dhok Gangal, and IMSG (I-V) Shehzad Town.

When speaking with this correspondent, Mohyudin Ahmed Wani verified the development, mentioning that it was thrilling news for the mentioned twelve institutions. He stated, "This expansion will grant many younger students greater access to top-notch, engaging educational settings, thereby establishing a solid base for their upcoming academic pursuits."

The main aim of Early Childhood Education (ECE) rooms is to offer young children, usually between the ages of 3 and 5, a solid educational base within an environment that is both supportive and stimulating. These spaces are designed to equip students with essential abilities needed for continuous learning and future achievements.

Specialized classrooms are vital for early childhood development as they cultivate cognitive, social, emotional, and physical abilities in an organized but stimulating way. They serve as a link between home life and traditional education settings. Through play-based and interactive tasks, these environments acquaint kids with structured learning, aiding their transition into the academic world.

Furthermore, the Early Childhood Education (ECE) rooms are crafted to foster critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities among young students. Tasks like narrative sessions, riddles, imaginative art projects, and tactile games promote inquiry and discovery—key elements for cognitive growth. Such engagements assist kids in acquiring foundational logical aptitudes and an enthusiasm for education.

Mohyudin Ahmed Wani stated that in contrast to conventional classrooms, the early childhood education (ECE) spaces will focus on play-based learning. This approach allows children to investigate ideas through interactive activities.

He mentioned that this setup would create an atmosphere that is both safe, inclusive, and supportive, making children feel protected and appreciated. He explained that when educators use positive reinforcement, it boosts students' self-worth and motivates them to share their thoughts without apprehension. Establishing such emotional security is essential for developing assurance and a favorable outlook towards education, as he pointed out.

Earlier, under same educational reforms package of Prime Minister, 16 degrees FDE's colleges have been converted into Information Technology (IT) training institutes which have been declared as High impact IT training institutes.

According to Mohyudin Wani that IT and Artificial Intelligence (AI) education play a crucial role in shaping modern society by enhancing efficiency, innovation, and problem-solving across various fields. The degree colleges have been equipped with modern IT labs, providing students with access to cutting-edge technology.

The offering courses in these high impact colleges included as AI, Data Science, and Block-chain while the colleges would have affiliation of the best ranked universities in the country such as FAST, NUST, GIK, NUML, COMSATS and NUTECH.

The listed institutions include: Islamabad College for Boys at G-6/3; Islamabad College for Girls located at F-6/2; Islamabad Model College for Girls situated at both F-6/2 and F-7/4; additional branches of Islamabad Model College for Girls found at F-10/2, F-10/3, G-10/4, and also in Humak; meanwhile, the Islamabad Model College for Boys can be found at F-10/4, H-8, and H-9; furthermore, the Islamabad Model Postgraduate College of Commerce operates from H-8/4; additionally, there’s an Islamabad Model College for Girls (Postgraduate) branch present at sites such as F-7/2, F-7/4, and G-10/4; lastly, the F.G. College of Home Economics & Management Sciences resides at location F-11/1.

This initiative will boost the digital capabilities of students, providing them with contemporary technological skills to prepare them for upcoming advancements.
