ZRA Surpasses Collection Target: Third Quarter Success Continues

Unguja: The Zanzibar Revenue Authority (ZRA) has recorded impressive earnings of Sh238.746 billion during the third quarter of the fiscal year 2024/25, exceeding their target by 100.06%. Initially, the projected amount stood at Sh238.611 billion. In a press release dated April 3, 2025, Commissioner-General Said Kiondo Athumani disclosed that these figures cover data collected from January through March. Kiondo noted that this marks a rise of 14.9%, adding up to an increment of Sh31.090 billion over last year's total of Sh207.715 billion within the equivalent timeframe. “In January, we targeted Sh80.984 billion; however, our actual intake was Sh81.512 billion, reaching 100.65% of our aim—an improvement of Sh11.332 billion indicating a growth rate of 16.15%," stated Kiondo. The month of February saw anticipated revenues at Sh83.229 billion, whereas realizations climbed to Sh83.483 billion—equivalent to hitting 100.3% of expectations—and represented a jump of Sh10.558 billion, reflecting a yearly expansion of 14.48%. March witnessed targets placed at Sh74.397 billion against realized sums totalling Sh73.750 billion, which accounted for approximately 99.15% achievement. According to Kiondo, successes can largely be credited to robust economic ties developing between mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar due to strategic policy implementations fostering commerce. Investments in critical infrastructures and community welfare along with burgeoning commercial ventures spearheaded by President Hussein Mwinyi’s administration played pivotal roles too. Additionally, heightened awareness campaigns directed towards enhancing self-compliance among citizens coupled with advancements in digital administrative tools like VFMS (electronic receipts), and ZIDRAS platforms facilitated better management practices. Furthermore, intensified scrutiny across multiple industry segments significantly improved overall efficiency levels pertaining to taxation procedures benefiting both contributors and general populace alike. Looking forward, emphasis remains on broadening outreach efforts via tailored informational drives focusing specifically on distinct categories of taxpayers promoting greater adherence voluntarily. Commissioner-General additionally revealed intentions to elevate oversight mechanisms concerning active governmental undertakings guaranteeing precise levies align with respective project scopes accordingly. Recently, Minister of Finance & Economic Planning Dr. Saada Mkuya together with representatives from ZRA initiated operations aiming strictly at identifying noncompliant entities deliberately omitting issuance obligations related to e-receipts. Certain enterprises allegedly imposed differential pricing structures based upon acceptance conditions thus compelling consumers opting out leading potentially skewed perceptions regarding equitable contribution norms toward national progressions. Dr. Saada reassured stakeholders involved stating decisive actions shall soon rectified ensuring fairness prevails universally. Syndigate.info ).
